I discovered this artist in the most unexpected of places - Tumblr. Capllonch's creations are highly stylised and full of narrative, indeed he often presents in a cinematic and sequential manner. In his work I see hints to Gregory Crewdson and to Erwin Olaf - but in a completely original way. The stories are gritty and dark, often exploring themes of loneliness, false joy and our inevitable demise. In the context of the last of these, I am fascinated by how he manages to give the departed central roles in the curiosity of the living. Capllonch gives us a world that is bleak but beautiful. Nature and the man-made live side by side but not in harmony. There is violence, sex, death and all presented with a discordant note. But while the themes may be gritty, the production is sharp and flawless.
